Rural Planning Consultant

Reading Agricultural Consultants Ltd (RAC) specialise in providing expertise and advice on agricultural, environmental and countryside issues.  In particular we provide advice to farmers, land managers and planners on agricultural and equestrian dwellings, farm and equine buildings, large-scale livestock developments, and horticultural units.

We are currently looking for someone who combines a working knowledge of agriculture with experience of the planning system to join our planning team.  The role includes providing agricultural advice to Local Authority clients to assist in the determination of planning applications, especially in relation to agricultural dwellings, and the preparation and submission of planning applications for private clients.

An essential element of this role is the ability to critically appraise a proposed development in terms of the planning policy framework, whilst understanding its wider agricultural context.

The role requires the person to be committed and self-motivated, being able to write reports to a high standard in a timely manner.

Due to the rural nature of the work, a full driving licence is essential.

Soil scientist
Soil Scientist / Surveyor

RAC provides agricultural land classification (ALC) and other soil surveys and we are always interesting in making links with established soil surveyors around the country. Recent graduates may also like to consider soil science as a career as outlined by Sophie Webb in our blog post, Day in the life of a soil scientist.
